How to add Text to an Instagram Reel
Making simple photo slideshow reels can only take you so far…
What happens when you want to play influencer for a day and create one of those beautiful inspirational reels with text that shifts exactly to the beat of the music?? 🎶
How do people accomplish that kind of video editing witchcraft without spending an entire day trying to create it? 🧚🏼♀️🔮
Well… after a year of practice and trying nearly every solution for simple video editing, I’ve broken down the beautification of reels into a handful of simple steps for video editing beginners.
Ready to get started???
How do I add text to my reel?
First step. Adding those beautiful words to the page. While videos and photos alone do tell a story, text grabs your audience’s attention. So how do we do that?
Let’s get into it:
Once you’re in the reel editing space, click the “Aa” icon in the top right corner of your scree.
Type in the text you want. You will be given the same creative options that Instagram stories gives you. If you need to, review the adding text options for Instagram stories first.
Once you like the way your text looks, click the “Done” button in the top right corner. Click and drag your text to move it to a different part of the screen.
How do I edit the timing of text on an Instagram Reel?
So now you’ve added text to your reel, but what if you want multiple pieces of text to pop up at different times?
In order to change the timing of your text on an Instagram Reel, follow these quick steps:
To edit timing, click the small bubble at the bottom of your screen that says what your text says. This will bring you to a more detailed reel editing space.
Similar to how we edited the length of photos in an Instagram reel slideshow, tap the purple box that’s titled whatever you wrote as your text. It will be highlighted in yellow.
Start from the beginning of the video, drag the start of the box to where you want the text to show up. Then move to the end of the video, drag the end of the box where you want the text to end.
Once you’re done in the more detailed reel editing space, start your finger on your reel and swipe toward the bottom of the screen. You can move between the two editing screens by swiping up or down.
TIP: You can add as many pieces of text as you want. Each piece of text will show up in a bubble at the bottom of your screen in the less detailed reel editing space.
How do I add stickers on Instagram Reels?
Instagram stickers can be added to both Instagram stories and reels! If you need a quick review on Instagram stickers, glance over our instructions on how to add stickers to an Instagram story.
To add stickers to an Instagram reel:
Enter the reel editing screen. Press the sticker button (to the immediate left of the text button).
Select the sticker you want.
Now it will become a text box similar to the text we already added. It will show up in a small bubble at the bottom left hand corner of the screen. Press that bubble to edit the timing.
Follow the instructions above from editing the timing of text to edit the timing of the sticker.
How do I add images on top of your video on Instagram Reels?
Right next to the sticker button, there is an image button. If you want to add an image on top of your video, click that icon. Then it will lead you to choose the image you want to show.
These images can be editing for timing using the same instructions above for editing the timing of a text on a reel.
People will oftentimes put photos on top of their reels to showcase a couple of images with a moving background to catch the audience’s attention. Some ideas of photos to highlight this way are:
Fun texts or reviews from clients or customers.
New branding photos.
Photos of your work.
